| Designing one’s own home is at once exciting and endlessly challenging, so I approached mine with formidably strict standards. I selected a favorite lot that boasted a view to the iconic Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, and I sought inspiration from my favorite 20th-century Viennese architects: Neutra and Schindler. Tearing down the original home, I was able to build a new one with an intimate ratio of mass to height. The finishes, meanwhile, are a conversation in exotic woods, unusual marbles and granites and other materials that juxtapose organic and industrial heritages. The result is this romantic, eclectic riff on Modernism. |
